Leiderdorp House
When moving into this house, the owner wanted to remove
all the boxwood (buxus) hedges that had been installed as
there were too many of them and many were diseased. They
were interested in having a softer, more natural look to the
garden with grass, flowers, and tiles rather than brick,
pebbles, and buxus. Their goal was to have a garden that
they could walk in bare-footed, access different entertaining
areas both safely and easily, and enjoy a wide variety of
flowers throughout the year.

Over 500 buxus were removed from the property as well as a few damaged/unhealthy trees from the back garden. The front garden gained a small area of grass, larger perennial gardens, cleaner pathways utilizing geo-ceramica tiles, a new lockable bicycle shed, and an arched entryway at the front gate. The back garden received a remodel of the old shed next to the house (including gated entry, new electrical, and better lighting), a new privacy gate, a new back fence to replace the dying hedge, much more accessible walkways, additional space in raised garden beds and at ground level, a trellised wisteria on the cottage complete with an above-ground waterfall pond, window boxes on the cottage, new geo-ceramica tiles and better lighting throughout.

The final project added value to the property and was often commented on by neighbors and local walking traffic as well as guests. This garden was planted 5 years ago and is still in great condition without requiring a great deal of maintenance or hard work from the homeowners. The new owners reportedly fell in love with the garden as much as the house and happily spend time both in the front and rear garden throughout the year.
