ABOUT ME

Hello, I am Inga Beehler and the owner of In En Uit Design.  I began this company in the Netherlands in 2021 because I love working on and around homes.  My business is two-fold: I work both on landscaping (design and construction) as well as home design (remodeling and interiors).  I have been doing this sort of work for the last 30 years.  I have also spent a great deal of time working on sets and props for theater companies – my favorite aspects being the creation of “one of a kind” pieces.  I just love creating.

I am originally from the United States, having grown up in Colorado but spending most of my adult life in the Pacific Northwest (Washington State).  I lived in the Netherlands with my husband and daughters in 2012-2014 (Amstelveen) and moved back here (Leiderdorp and Rijpwetering) in 2017.  We live here because we love it.

In my spare time I am usually out working in our own garden, playing with our dog Winston, riding bikes, kayaking or camping with my husband and exploring the country.  We love to travel and while away, I usually have my camera in hand, as I also enjoy photography a great deal.

What I do

I am lucky, as well, that the Pacific Northwest (Seattle Area) is also the same general climate as the Netherlands and so moving here and continuing my love of nature and gardening was easy and natural.  Back in Washington, I had my own landscaping company for about 20 years – doing everything from designing and building small gardens to creating huge waterfall/stone installations and terraced hillsides.

In addition to working in the garden, I have always loved creating spaces and designing homes.  I have remodeled all the homes that we have lived in – from small projects to massive re-work.  I have also remodeled homes for resale. In that process, I have learned a lot and gained valuable insights as to how construction works, what needs to happen to make projects successful and how to work within a budget by making necessary trade-offs when needed.  I am great at finding deals and understanding the value of remodeling elements.  Here in the Netherlands, I have worked with several contractors and service providers to remodel aspects of our own homes, and also helped a friend navigate some aspects of her own remodel.  I am still learning about construction here in the Netherlands as the methods are different than those in the Pacific Northwest (primarily wood construction on hard ground versus brick and stone work on sand), but contractors I have worked with closely have appreciated my understanding of how things work and what needs to be done.

How I work

When I am doing any project, I work hard to understand my client’s goals and needs above all else.  I want to understand the bigger picture to be certain that we are always thinking through the work in a smart way.  There is little worse than creating something beautiful only to realize that it will need to be torn up because something was forgotten (such as electrical or water lines).  I have found that sometimes the client needs help to define their project and understand the longer-term view and that’s when I can really help.  By listening and synthesizing what I understand from talking with them, I can often point out possibilities and get clarification on things that others might not see which can help solve problems or needs without creating more issues in the future.

I bill my time on an hourly basis at 50 euros per hour for design, construction and travel time.  I believe this is the best way for you to understand the value you are getting and for me to keep tighter control of my time and focus.  I do go to nurseries to pick out materials myself (wholesale and retail) as I believe that buying the best materials will create the longest-lasting, best product possible.  In the years I have lived in the area I have spent a great deal of time in nurseries and home stores learning which companies carry the best products, so I can pass those items on to you.  If I hire a subcontractor to perform work on your project, I will pass their bill along rather than increase their costs with an additional percentage.  I do charge taxes on all my services and products as required by law.

My first consultation is free as I believe it is in everyone’s best interest to make sure that my design and work style is compatible with the client’s needs.  Should we both choose to move forward with the project, I will have a contract with an estimate of project costs and expectations for job completion.  I will always work with the client to ensure communication is open and we agree on terms and expectations during the project as well.

I look forward to meeting you and learning about how I can help you fall in love with your home – Inside and Out.

Beste,

Inga Beehler
